These systemsinclude corporal punishment, psychological abuse or neglect, and assertive check off. These guidelines variedfrom school to school, but practically included length, width and thickness of thepaddle or any other weapon used, the amount of times the student whitethorn be taken with(p)by the weapon, and other minor details about other types of physical punishment.The list of weapons that were acceptable for teachers to use include longrubber hoses, trounce straps and belts, sticks, rods, straight pins, hardplastic baseball bats, and arrows. If at the time a teacher did not havehis/her weapon, they would oftentimes resort to punching, kicking, slapping andshaking as ways to get childrens attention. Besides these common manoeuvresof punishment, other and often more painf ul techniques were used by teachers.Children in a class for the learning disabled claimed that their teacher, andher aide banged their heads into their desks until some students wereunconscious, twisted their arms, and even act strangulation. This is an allaround unpleasant thing to do, and is probably one of the better systems used.Throughout all the different discipline plans, each teacher must be positive but severe while punishing students. Verbal apprehensions in private also may have apositive effect on misbehaving students.Of all the different types of discipline studied, assertive discipline hasthe most positive results on students. It has been proven to be better atstopping student s from unacceptable behaviour, as comfortably as not damaging them emotionally, or physically.
